Executive Management
Chris Rivers, M-I SWACO President & Chief Executive Officer. Before joining Smith International, Chris was the Controller for McEvoy from 1978 until 1988. From 1989 to 1992, he worked as the International Controller for Smith International. In 1992, he joined the M-I SWACO organization where he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 1994 until 2005 and as Senior Vice President - Eastern Hemisphere in 2005. In January 2009, he succeeded Don McKenzie as President & Chief Executive Officer of M-I SWACO. He studied cost and management accounting at Bristol Polytechnic. |

Joe Bacho, Senior Vice President - North America. Joe began his career with M-I SWACO as a Data Engineer in Oklahoma and worked through the ranks to serve in a number of management posts, including Vice President - Worldwide Fluids, Vice President - Western Hemisphere Fluids, and Regional Vice President - Mountain West & Alaska. He has also served in sales and technical service roles. Joe is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Drilling Engineers. He holds a BS in geology. |

John Oliver, Senior Vice President - South America. John began his career with M-I SWACO through Schlumberger in 1992. In 1997, he moved to Houston as Global Marketing Manager for Drilling Fluids and was instrumental in forming the current M-I SWACO joint venture between Smith and Schlumberger. In 2006 John served as Vice President for the Drilling Solutions Segment until 2008 when he assumed the position of Senior Vice President South America. John is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and PESA. John earned a BSc Honors degree in Biochemistry from the University of St Andrews, Scotland. |

Dave Paterson, Senior Vice President - Eastern Hemisphere. Prior to joining M-I SWACO in 1999, Dave worked for the Dowell Drilling Fluids Division of Schlumberger in the North Sea, Australia and the Far East. After joining M-I SWACO Dave worked in various Operational and Management positions in Asia Pacific before being appointed Country Manager of Indonesia in 2002. Dave was promoted to Regional Vice President Asia Pacific in 2006. Dave is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and holds a BSc and MSc in Offshore Engineering from the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. |

John Kelly, Senior Vice President - Production Technologies. Prior to joining M-I SWACO in 2000, John worked for the Dowell division of Schlumberger in various technical and managerial positions in the U.S., Africa, Latin America and the Far East. He joined the executive staff of M-I SWACO as Marketing and Sales Manger, moving to M-I Production Chemicals in 2004 and then to the newly formed Production Technologies Segment as Senior Vice President in 2006. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the National Association of Corrosion Engineers. John graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a Bachelors Degree in natural sciences and a Masters Degree in manufacturing engineering. |

Max Richey, Vice President – Corporate Product Delivery. Max joined M-I SWACO in 1995 and has held many positions including Global Manager Sales & Technical Support, Sr. Area Manager Operations in Louisiana and Eastern Hemisphere Sales Manager in Dubai. From 2002 to 2006, he was President of our SWECO division in Kentucky with eleven manufacturing facilities around the world and served on the MAPI Manufacturing Alliance President’s Council. In his current role he is responsible for Global Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Minerals, Continuous Improvement and our Environmental Solutions Product Segment and also serves as a Director of our Swequipos JV in Mexico. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas, member of API and PESA and holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University. |

Frank Richter, Vice President, Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer. After serving in various roles with Smith International until 1987, Frank became West Hemisphere Controller for M-I SWACO in 1998 and is currently located in Houston. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Frank earned a BBA degree in accounting from Texas A&M University. |

Jim Bruton, Vice President - Research & Engineering. Having begun his career with M-I SWACO in 1972 as a Drilling Fluids Engineer, Jim has held a number of positions both in operations and Research and Engineering, including Technical Services Engineer and Corporate Director of Technical Services. Based in Houston, Jim is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Drilling Engineers. He holds a BS in geology from the University of Houston. |

James Webster, Vice President - General Counsel & Secretary. Before joining M-I SWACO in 2005, James was a Partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP law firm in Houston. From 1995 until 1999, he had been Corporate Counsel for McDermott International in New Orleans. James received a BA in economics from the University of Arizona and a law degree and an MBA from Loyola University. |

Brian Hunter, Vice President - QHSE. Brian joined M-I SWACO in 1979 and has served in a number of significant management roles with our Canadian operations as Area and Regional manager and subsequently as Regional Vice President Canada / Alaska. In 2004 he relocated to Houston as Vice President Western Hemisphere Drilling Waste Management, 2006 Vice President Environmental Solutions. Brian is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and studied management at Barnes Wood College England. |

Guido Rivas, Vice President - Human Resources, graduated from Rice University Jones School of Business with a Master in Business Administration and from the Universidad Simon Bolivar with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Having begun his career with Schlumberger Dowell in 1982 as a field engineer, Rivas served as Schlumberger Oilfield Services Country Manager in Brazil and Schlumberger Dowell Country Manager in Venezuela. Having worked in five Schlumberger segments, Rivas’ career has spanned various operational management positions in addition to international sales and marketing management and human resources. His most recent position as Vice President of Human Resources, North America for Atos Origin (formerly Schlumberger Sema) included executive management for Canada, Mexico and the U.S. and serving as coach and facilitator for organizational development and change programs. |
